My Approach

I believe music education is about more than learning to play well. It is about helping students discover who they are, how they listen, and how they express themselves within a long tradition that belongs to all of us.

In the studio, technique, theory, history, composition, improvisation, and performance are all part of the same journey. Each student is approached as an individual, with room for curiosity, challenge, and self-expression. My goal is not simply to teach music, but to help students build a relationship with it that can continue long after lessons end.

At its best, the private studio is also a community—one built on trust, connection, and the belief that music is something we carry forward and make our own.

The Student Season

Each season, students receive thirty individual lessons, composition work, performance opportunities, and group classes. Instruction spans reading, improvisation, theory, history, composition, and performance, with both foundational and advanced study tracks available seasonally. Mrs. Tallamy approaches each student as an individual, offering instruction designed for the student’s goals and needs including leveled instruction through the RCM program.

The Profession

Christy Tallamy, NCTM, is an active leader in the private music teaching community. Her professional involvement has included leadership with VMTA, NVMTA, NFMC, and MTNA, alongside workshops for teachers and music organizations. Her work focuses especially on composition, studio community, student wellbeing, and strengthening the evolving practice of independent music educators.

LEMS Studio Families

All current studio information—including calendars, performance times, assignments, and other important updates—can be found in the dedicated Student Portal. Families are encouraged to use the portal as their first stop for studio details. If you ever have trouble finding something or navigating the space, please reach out. I’m always happy to help.

After nine years of lessons and two daughters who play piano, Little Ears and Mrs. Tallamy have become part of our family. Mrs. Tallamy teaches them piano, posture, patience, perseverance, and so much more. My daughters now find their escape on the keys and in lesson conversation with a very important role model in their life, Mrs. Tallamy. I highly recommend Little Ears and the blessings it will bring to your family as it has ours.
